The group has been very well attended during the spring period and we have maintained our membership at full capacity. We have watched a video on pastel painting with water which was something many of us hadn’t tried before and were surprised at the results. The addition of water to pastel added depth and vibrancy to this medium. We painted a floral still life.
We then practised painting reflections, mostly painting water reflections but also mirrored reflections.
Our next theme was exploring abstract art which resulted in a wide variety of work as nothing was out of bounds and we experimented with different ways of applying textures and using different mediums.
Our most recent theme is “Movement”. One of our members acted as a model by moving round to music, stopping in various poses for us to do quick sketches, before moving on to another pose. The idea was to free up our observation skills by not allowing time to become bogged down by detail and concentrate on the basic shapes only. It was very successful, mainly due to the professional way our “model” conducted the exercise, and we all enjoyed it. Our next part of this theme will be to produce a painting based on some of the sketches we produced.
