The group aims to :
- explore and learn about different genres of popular and rock music and their evolution, predominantly, but not exclusively, from the 1960s to the 1980s
- cover all types of popular music from “classic rock” (however that may be defined!) through to psychedelia, folk, progressive and electronic and everything in between - from Adam Faith and Acker Bilk to Led Zeppelin and Frank Zappa
- expand our knowledge of how popular music has become a significant part of western culture
How we do this :
- members decide on the musical theme for each month e.g. songs of Bob Dylan covered by other artistes, favourite guitar bands, rock “family trees”, European Prog Rock. We then choose one or two tracks each, which are pulled together into a playlist. This forms the basis of our meeting where we discuss the background behind each song - and why we chose it in the first place!
- over time we also plan to meet at local venues to see local bands performing live
When we meet :
- the third Tuesday morning of every month from 1000 to 1200 - venue arranged on an ad-hoc basis
- each meeting will usually have a limit of 10 members
