Lunch Group

We are a friendly group of singles and couples who meet for lunch on the 4th Wednesday of each month at as many different locations as we can find within 30-40 mins drive of Lostwithiel!

Between us we have discovered some really good places to eat and are always keen to try new ones. The lunches usually start at 12.30 for 1pm.

Members take it in turns to organise and host the lunches with the help of the group leaders if required but if no one volunteers then there is no lunch!!  As yet luckily this has never happened!

Since our 10th Anniversary Open Day,  we have welcomed new members to join this friendly group. We have become so popular that we have a decided to have a waiting list. We currently have 28 members. Some venues will not accommodate more than 20 and in order to be fair to current members we have taken this decision. If you are interested in joining our group please contact us to have your name put on the waiting list.

December 2024

To end our well attended year of dining in different venues, twenty four members in their seasonal attire enjoyed the Christmas menu at the Lanhydrock Golf Club.  There is now an exciting programme being prepared for 2025 and the first port of call will be at The Jubilee Inn at Pelynt in January.

November 2024

Members are invited to meet at The Royal Oak, Lostwithiel on the 27th November at 10.30am to discuss and decide on venues for 2025.  It is our usual fourth Wednesay of the month for              get-togethers but there is no planned lunch arranged as it is so close to our Christmas lunch on the 4th December.

October 2024

A big thank you to Doug Mills for organising a very successful last minute lunch at The Jubilee Inn at Pelynt having been let down by his usual venue at The Cloisters St Austell.   Thirteen members enjoyed their respective choice of menu and the usual friendly banter.

September 2024

We went for a return trip to the London Inn at Upton Cross. The food was very good with lots to choose from. The portion sizes would have satisfied the largest appetites. The staff were also lovely and were happy to make changes for those that had certain dietary requirements. We look forward to our next visit.

August 2024

We met at the Boathouse, Charlestown today for a lunch. It was organised by Sue Luttmer and attended by 20 members.

July 2024

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Edies at Carlyon Bay. The food was delicious especially the deserts. I can vouch for the apricot and almond tart. Highly recommend.

June 2024

Always open to new ideas, a new venue was tried this month at The Crows Nest, Darite  - an historic, traditional inn full of character on Bodmin Moor and organised by Sheila Mackinder.  It certainly past the test and the lunch was enjoyed by fourteen members.  It was a perfect day too to be up on the Moor.

July's lunch will be at Edie's Carlyon Bay now instead of the originally planned Kingswood Restaurant at London Apprentice.

May 2024
Twelve members enjoyed a good lunch and good banter at Stepping Stone, Wadebridge - one of the group's favourite restaurants - and many thanks to Keith who kindly organised the event.

April 2024

Another very successful lunch with a varied and interesting menu was enjoyed by seventeen members at Florys in Bodmin, well organised by Sheila Goodgame.

March 2024

A new venue for the group was organised this month by a founder member, Sue Cowen, at The Crooked Inn, Tremanton where fifteen lively members took over the attractive conservatory dining area.

February 2024

Lunch at Carlyon Bay Golf Club was excellent, seventeen of us in a superb cliff top setting. It was a pity about the weather otherwise we would have been able to really appreciate the view. The event was very well organised by new member Ruth Clench.

January 2024

A successful first lunch of the year was organised by Dorothy Hancock at Trehellas and was attended by 21 lively members who enjoyed the varied menu.

December 2023

We ended the year with a three course Christmas Lunch prepared for us by the students at Cloisters, the restaurant at St Austell College.

October 2023

Twenty of us enjoyed a superb lunch at Stepping Stones restaurant today. Thank you to Sheila for organising and the staff for making us so welcome.

Next month, November 22nd, we have our coffee morning at the Royal Oak, 10.30 to discuss next year's venues. Please come with ideas of where you would like to go.

September 2023

A very successful lunch today at The London Inn, St Neot for fifteen lively members! Good food and excellent service.

August 2023

Sixteen of us attended a lunch at the Boathouse in Charlestown. The food was delicious, many enjoyed bowls of mussels as starters. Lovely to get to know some of our new members.

Many thanks to Sue for organising.

July 2023

Nineteen of us enjoyed  a lovely lunch at Trehellas Hotel. The food as usual was outstanding and the company was good too. Many thanks to Dorothy for organising.

June 2023

For our 10th Anniversary the u3a Lunch group enjoyed a splendid meal prepared for us by Jordan and Kerris. If you haven't been to this little gem tucked away in Lostwithiel's Fore Street you really must try it.

May 2023

Those of us who went to Cloisters Restaurant at St Austell College had an Indian Lunch. The students were being assessed whilst they carved Tandoori Chicken. The meal was very tasty and finished with a coconut panacotta with mango. Well done to the students. The meal was lovely and the service was good.

 April 2023

The group enjoyed a superb lunch at Stepping Stones in Wadebridge. Lots of clean plates!

Thank you to Sheila for organising.

 March 2023

We enjoyed a lovely meal yesterday at the Lanivet Inn whilst welcoming six new members.

It was a very busy venue and had an extensive, reasonably priced menu.

We look forward to our next meal at Stepping Stones in Wadebridge. Please contact Sheila Goodgame with your menu choices as soon as possible.

March 2023

u3a had an open day yesterday to showcase our groups to the general public.

It was a very enjoyable day including music from u3a members and free refreshments.

There was such a buzz in the room and comments such as "This has such a lovely welcoming community feel" were much appreciated.

We had many enquiries from both u3a members and people wanting to join so we look forward to seeing many of you at future lunches.

Many thanks to those of you that set up our display - it looked lovely. Also to all members who looked after the  the table and talked to potential new members.

Just another quick update. Our lunch at Restormal Kitchen is fully booked but if you are still interested please contact the organiser who can let you know if a place becomes available.

February 2023

We had a very enjoyable time yesterday. There were nine of us seated round an oval table which allowed conversations to flow freely.

The lunch was good - the food, the ambience and the people. As Doug said, "you can't get much better than that!"

Many thanks to Keith for organising.

February 2023

Details of our luncheon trip to Kingswood have been emailed to all members.

February 2023

After having an interesting and enjoyable coffee morning it has been decided to carry on with the group and we have arranged the above venues for this year.29th November 2021

As soon as there is a light at the end of the tunnel we shall meet again. In the meantime stay safe and keep smiling!

Best wishes from
Rosie
