u3a Lostwithiel Birdwatching Calendar Sept 2024 - August 2025
The calendar below is the proposed calendar for our next season of field trips. Though primarily we began as a bird watching group we have in reality evolved into taking an interest in all wildlife we come across from mammals, insects and butterflies to plants and fungi.
You do not need to be an expert, all are welcome and if you enjoy photography do bring your camera.
This calendar can be subject to change depending on weather and local conditions. Always check the web site beforehand and emails for details, usually a couple of weeks prior to event. If unsure please email one of the group contacts.
Hi all,
In December of us walked the Camel Trail from Wadebridge towards Padstow. It stayed dry and we managed 34 species of birds, no butterflies or any wildlife of significance but that is not unexpected at this time of year. Some of the notable finds were 4 Goosanders, Golden Plover, Grey Wagtail and Common Sandpiper as well as many regulars
January we postponed the Bude trip due to poor weather and took advantage of the Tamar/Lynher Birdwatching cruise out of Plymouth in mid February. We were fortunate it was a great day weather wise and flat calm. We saw some great birds , Black necked Grebe, Great Northern Diver, Common Gull, Common Scoter - sea ducks, Brent Geese, Spoonbills and Avocets - excellent few hours. The Bude trip will now take place Friday 21st meeting at 10.30 at the Tourist information centre.
Do look out for my more detailed field trip reports to get a more detailed idea of what we see which I hope to bring up to date very soon as the weather keeps us more indoors.
