Predictably it was cold, windy and damp but a good turn out of 12 and somehow the rain held off.
Three stages to our time up at Davidstow, the reservoir, then a walk around the conifer forest and finally a drive around the airfield. We encountered 23 species of bird in total and a wide variety of fungi. Of the birds the Goosander and Great Crested Grebe were the highlight at the reservoir and on the airfield we caught up with the Yellow legged Gull - a winter European visitor. Unfortunately our quest for a crossbill in the forest failed but we found a Pestle Puffball - not frequently found.
Lunch in Camelford was either a picnic but some of us indulged in hot cheesy chips. The park as always was in pristine condition and we found 17 species including nuthatch, Bullfinch, Jays, Gold crest and Long tailed tits. Another successful day out.
